About Countdown Calendar
A free, no-account tool for counting down to the moments that matter most.
What is Countdown Calendar?
Countdown Calendar is a free online tool for creating live, shareable countdown timers. You choose a date, give your event a name, set a background colour or image, and get a link you can send to anyone. The timer runs in real time — days, hours, minutes, and seconds — and works in any browser without installing anything.
The site has grown beyond the core countdown builder over time. It now includes a business days calculator that accounts for public holidays in the US, UK, and Canada; a collection of online timers for everyday use; a world clock; a holiday countdown page; and a blog with guides on time, planning, and events. Everything is free and always will be.
Who uses it
All kinds of people use Countdown Calendar for all kinds of reasons. Families counting down to Christmas morning or a summer holiday. Students marking the days until exams are over. Couples sharing a wedding countdown with guests who live far away. Teachers projecting a classroom timer so students can see exactly how much time is left in an activity. People marking the final stretch before retirement.
There's no single use case. If you have a date that matters and you want to see how far away it is — or how close it's getting — this tool is for you.
Why this site was built
Most calendar apps are good at scheduling. They tell you when something is happening. But they don't do much with the stretch of time between now and then — that gap is just empty space on a grid.
Countdown Calendar was built to fill that gap. Anticipation is a real part of how we experience events. Looking forward to something affects mood and motivation in the lead-up, not just on the day itself. A live countdown makes that waiting period feel concrete and active rather than abstract.
The site started small and grew based on what people actually asked for. The shareable links, embed code, business days tools, timer pages, and world clock all came from real user feedback. When something new keeps getting requested, it gets built.
What makes it different
A basic date calculator tells you there are 54 days until something. That's useful but static. Countdown Calendar shows you 54 days, 7 hours, 12 minutes, and 38 seconds — and keeps counting down live in your browser.
You can personalise the countdown with a name and message, pick a background colour, gradient, or your own photo, and share it as a link that fully restores everything — title, date, background — on any device, without an app. There's also an embed option if you want to put a countdown on a blog or external website.
The business days calculator goes further than a simple date difference: it accounts for public holidays in the US, UK, and Canada, so when you need to know how many working days remain before a contract deadline or year-end close, the answer is accurate rather than approximate.
How the site is maintained
This isn't a set-it-and-forget-it project. The tools are actively looked after — tested across browsers and devices, improved for speed and reliability, and updated when things change (like public holiday schedules each year). New features get added when there's a clear reason to add them.
When users report something broken or suggest something useful, we look at it. Most of what exists today came from people asking for it. If you run into a problem or have an idea, the contact page is the right place to send it.
No account, no tracking
You can create, customise, and share a countdown without signing up for anything. No email address required, no password to remember, no profile to manage. Your countdown settings are encoded directly in the share URL — so the link you send is completely self-contained, and anyone who opens it sees your countdown exactly as you set it up.
The site uses standard analytics to understand how pages are used in aggregate, but the countdown builder itself does not require or request any personal information. The newsletter and contact form are entirely optional.
Who's behind the site
Countdown Calendar is maintained by a real person — not a large company or an automated content farm. It's a focused project that gets genuine attention: new features are added thoughtfully, problems get fixed when they're found, and feedback from users shapes what gets built next.
